Sun Valley

A resort city, Sun Valley is located next to Ketchum and has a population of roughly 1,500. The area is highly regarded for skiing specifically with the alpine ski area which includes Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain. Bald Mountain or “Baldy” is commonly referred to as one of the best ski mountains in the world due to its varying levels of trails, vertical drop and lack of wind.

Sun Valley got its popularity back in the earlier 1900’s. Specifically, as winter olympics had gained traction, a new location for them was being sought after so several regions were under review for consideration. In the end, Sun Valley was selected for its snowfall, sunshine, elevation and absence of wind. The Sun Valley Lodge was erected and was the centerpiece for the area attracting celebrities and wealthy individuals.

Today, Sun Valley has continued to be a popular place. Still heavily reliant on tourism, the city is broken up primarily into two predominant areas. The northern part is home to shops, inns, condominiums and a golf course. Similarly the southern part also has that make up although a more distinct appearance in vegetation and was developed later on. Countless activities can be enjoyed all throughout the year making Sun Valley a great place to live or visit.
